In this film, „Fucking“ is a little village, somewhere in the Austrian Alps, and a certified health resort (called „Bad“ in German). Therefore its name is Bad Fucking – no pun intended. The dramatis personae were all carefully imported from Kurt Palms bestselling novel:

Teenage girl Veronika is forced to work at her family’s souvenir shop. Suddenly she becomes its sole owner – her parents die in the same rock avalanche which makes the village’s main road a dead end street. The outside world is quick to forget Bad Fucking ever existed.
Coming from Serbia, Jagoda has ended up there as a cleaning lady – the search for a better life has obviously led her in the wrong direction. She is Veronika’s only friend. Among the crazy lot the two of them are standing out as a rock of rhyme and reason. In the end, they will even survive an inferno of biblical dimensions…

Hintersteiner is the town mayor, the owner of the only hotel, and a criminal. As such he comes up with a bright idea – instead of a second hotel, he will build an asylum seekers’ home, right in the middle of the picturesque nature reserve around Lake Hell. A prospering business. And the tourists have stopped coming, anyway.
There is lots of money to be made by Hintersteiner and his old friend Mitzi Sperr, a local building contractor. The whole thing should be paid for by the state – a doddle, since Mitzi has recently been named Home Secretary.

Hintersteiner’s archenemy is Wellisch, the head of police, and a devoted fisherman. Together with his assistant and a caveman, he is passionately fighting the mayor’s evil plans.
The latter’s elder son, Kilian, has the Viennese police breathing down his neck. So the megalomaniac crook is heading back home, planning on even more evil than his father.

Nobody knows that in the meantime an investment fraudster has blown all of the community’s funds, plus everything Hintersteiner owned.

Between enemy lines, Mrs. Hintersteiner, her equally soulsick younger son Philipp, the horny dentist, and his estranged wife stagger along, unwillingly getting tangled up in bizarre adventures.
Their fate is shared by a group of young cheerleaders with their coach, who have come to Bad Fucking on their own free will. A mistake they will never make again…

Bad Fucking was a box office hit, and its reruns on TV are still getting fine ratings. Which proves that the Austrian people love satire and black comedy. It also confirms that the empathy a film’s characters and story evoke with the audience are helping its success a lot more than worn out mainstream contents ever will.
